Metallic Is The New Black

Many of us would like to call ourselves “food connoisseurs,” but when it comes to choosing a wedding, there is a plethora of styles, colors, and flavors to choose from. Wittkowsky’s journey into the world of cakes began with her passion to create delicious works of artwork. Wittkowsky says, “I’ve always loved baking. When my carrot and walnut cake won first place at the 2014 Royal Perth Show I was not going to stop.” “I love how cake is part of every celebration and happy moment in life.”

A Little Lustre

Metallic cakes are gaining popularity due to their sleek design and opulent aesthetic. Choose a simple, elegant design with gold or silver accents on one or more layers. Wittkowsky suggests using metallic paint to stencil or metallic drips. Wittkowsky offers an important tip for decorating your cake: “If you want to add solid blocks metallic colour to a a cake, always leave some space above and beneath it.” You can also choose a more modern shade like rose gold, copper, or bronze. Wittkowsky says that you can either paint the entire tier or use pieces of gold or silver leaf.

Afternoon De Luxe

If you want to avoid going overboard, you can add small gold elements to the design. You can add so many details to a simple cake that will make it pop. Wittkowsky loves gold and silver leaf. You can paint metallics over fondant to bring out texture. Metallic paint on wafer paper looks amazing when added to a cake. Due to food safety regulations, it will always be at least 21 carats.

The edible gold leaf can also be vegan, and it will transform even the most simple cake into an artistic masterpiece. Gold leaf comes in two common forms: sheets and flakes. Decide with your baker which form is best for your confections. Sheets are perfect for large designs and can give a seamless, luxe look. Flakes work best for smaller sweets such as macaroons and cupcakes. There may be too many options, but when you have so many delicious cakes to choose from, it is not a bad thing!

Cakes can be adorned with a variety of tiny details to really make them stand out. Wittkowsky says, “I like to add texture by painting directly on top of it.” I also like to add metallic accents to sugar flowers. For example, painting some leaves gold or painting the edges of petals with a hint of gold. Metallic edible sequins can also be used to add glitz and glamour. Tiers covered in cachous gold are also festive and ornamental. Edible glitter is the perfect material for a cake. While everyone hates glitter, it is great to use in child care. Glitter’s connection to fun and childhood will remind your guests about their youth.

with Complements

Cakes are full of personality with their intricate details and towering heights. They should also reflect your personality. Add metallic elements to the venue design if you want your cake to fit in. Wittkowsky explains that it’s important to have metallic elements in your wedding style so that your cake blends seamlessly into your special day. Consider adding edible beads and pearls to your cake if you want a touch of elegance. For a personal touch, you could match the beads with your dress.

You can also match your wedding cake with floral arrangements. Wittkowsky says that “most flowers look fantastic with gold and/or silver.” Covering an entire tier with gold or silver leaves looks stunning – I like to add it near other design elements, such as flowers.

Choose colors that complement your metallics while also standing out. Wittkowsky says that you should always plan before decorating. Once the metallic coating is on the cake, you cannot remove it, so planning the design and color is essential.

Done and Dusted

You can also create a topper that is personalized for your cake. You can have a monogram made using your initials and those of your partner. You can use your first name if you don’t plan to change your last name. Your wedding theme could be incorporated into your topper. If you are having your wedding aboard a boat, for example, an anchor is a great symbol to use between your initials. You can also have your favorite quote made into a cake topper. In one way or another, you can incorporate almost anything into your cake, including miniature versions of yourself and your partner and even your pet! Your baker can also include a piece of heirloom that has special meaning to you. Wittkowsky adds, “I love when you finish the design by adding all the small details that make it come to life.”

Do not forget to eat the cake! Many brides and grooms spend so much time chatting with their guests that they forget about enjoying the food. You have probably spent many months, if not years, planning your wedding. Take the time to enjoy the wedding and eat all the delicious creations.
